Please respond to the following question using RAD format and correct spelling and grammar. Use information from the book to support your thinking. Type your response in Google Docs first, then post it to the site. This way you won't lose your work, and if you need to make corrections you can.

Question 1:

Do you think what Squint did to Harold is fair? Why or why not? Do you think Homer thinks it is his fault?

  1. Q1: I think that what Squint did to Harold was not fair because first of all, Harold is not of legal age. Also, Harold did not trip Squint, he tripped on himself so he shouldn't have sent Harold to the army. I bet Squint doesn't care if he gets killed in battle. I would go to the war to find my brother if that happened to me.

    1. Fletcher,

I like how you said "Harold did not trip Squint, he tripped on himself so he himself shouldn't have sent Harold to the army."What do you think Homer is going to do with his brother?

  2. Good thoughts Fletcher. I agree that what Squint did to Harold is not fair. Squint is supposed to be responsible for raising Harold and Homer, and instead he is making money off of Harold by deceptively selling him into conscription.

Do you think Homer feels like it is his fault that Harold got conscripted?

    1. Thank you for my comment and I agree with you that Squint is responsible for Homer and Harold so he should have not payed Mr. Witham to put Harold in the army.

    2. Harold seems like a pretty good brother for protecting Homer from Squint. What is Homer doing that shows he is a good brother too?

  3. I think what Squint did to Harold is not fair at all. I think this because all Harold was trying to do was protect Homer. It was not Homer’s fault that he was hungry and wanted some bread to eat. I think that Squint took a small thing and made it a really big deal He then lied and said that Harold was 20 years old to get rid of him and make some money. It’s not fair that Squint is telling a big lie and is getting away with it. Now, Homer is afraid that his brother is going to get killed in the army. I think that Homer thinks it’s his fault because he says “It’s all my fault. No question about it.” If I were Homer, I would also think it’s my fault because of what happened. But, I know that he shouldn’t feel like it’s his fault because squint was probably planning this for a long time.

    1. I like how you put in so much detail in your post and explain how Harold is not 20 yet and he is 17 . And your right that Harold was just protecting Homer.

    2. Good comments Daniel. That is a great thought that Squint was probably planning this for a long time -- can you tell me more about why you think that?

  4. I think what Squint did to Harold was VERY unfair. As a parent/guardian myself, we are supposed to take care of our kids or other family members. I feel Squint is only thinking of himself and doesn't care how he gets money he thinks he needs. Homer thinks this is all his fault. Homer feels that if he had not stole from the pigs, it still be him and his brother against Squint.
