Week 4 Question

Homer begins imagining Harold dying in battle. "I imagine Harold bleeding on the ground, his face getting paler and paler. Harold dead." Why do we always think the worst when reality isn't so bad? Homer is better about thinking the worst then anyone. Why does he always assume bad things are going to happen?

  1. Q3 Homer assumes that the bad things will happen when they really are not so bad is because he loves his brother and he knows what happens in wars and he does not want Harold to get hurt. Also, Homer was growing up with bad things happening in his life like his mom dying and living with his mean uncle. And we think the worst will happen because if the characters are usually right in the story so we want to agree with them.

  2. Good thoughts Fletcher. Homer has experienced a lot of bad things in his life, so it is logical for him to assume the worst will happen. I also think that Homer just has a very active imagination -- he frequently tells wild fibs to others, so maybe he also thinks wild things inside his own mind.

  3. Homer assumes bad things are going to happen because Uncle Squint was really mean to him and Harold by not caring about them. Homer also does not want Harold to die in the war, because the war is violent and people could die.

    1. Josh- I agree that it is hard for Homer to think good and positive thoughts, especially when his family didn't take care of him and his brother. Great job!

  4. I think that Homer thinks that bad things happen because Homer has grown up with his mom dying and living with mean uncle Squint. Also because the war a lot of people die and harold could die from going into the war.Homer thinks that bad things happen, mostly because he has grown up with a lot of bad things happening like his mom dying, Homer starving, Harold getting forced to go to the war, thats why i think that homer thinks bad things a lot.

  5. I think Homer assumes that bad things only are going to happen because he misses Harold and he thinks that since the didn't go to school he wouldn't know any thing about how the would fight. And scene Homer thinks that Harold is so nice to him than he wouldn't be one of the all the time fighters. And he wouldn't be tough like some army men.

    1. I liked how you explained how Homer assumes that bad things are going to happen to Harold because he thinks since Harold is so nice to him that he doesn't know how to be tough and fight.

  6. We always think the worst when reality isn’t so bad because it’s easier to think negatively than thinking positively. People think negative because they think they won’t be as disappointed if something bad actually happens. Homer always assumes bad things are going to happen because a lot of bad things have already happened to him. For example, his parents died, his uncle is treating him poorly, his brother is sent into war, and he was captured by two robbers. Homer used to bad things things happening his life so he thinks that way.
